Your First Visit

You will find our clinic very convenient to get to.

We are located at the Macleod Trail Co-op Shopping Centre, which is at Macleod Trail SE and 86th Avenue SE (just south of Heritage Drive, and across the street from the London condos and Heritage C-Train stop).

We are ATTACHED to the Macleod Trail CO-OP grocery store, not next to the other business in the shopping centre.

You can see our sign from Macleod Trail, and there is plenty of free parking.  We have two entrances, one from outside, and one from inside the CO-OP grocery store.

Your Visit to Family First Chiropractic and Wellness Will Go Like This

Once you come into the clinic, you will be warmly greeted at our reception area.  Please introduce yourself and ask any questions that you may have.  We kindly ask that you remove your shoes as well.

After you introduce yourself, you will have to complete some paperwork including your contact information, questions about your current problem, and questions about your past health history.

After your paperwork is finished, you are free to look around and read any of the brochures, up-to-date reading material, or interesting information on our bulletin board, or simply have a seat and relax.

Sometimes going to a new doctor for the first time can make people nervous!  Of course, there is no need to be.  Your first visit to see Dr. Bell or our other providers will be comfortable and relaxing.

When ready, you will be taken to one of our treatment rooms to continue your assessment with Dr. Bell.  In the treatment room, Dr. Bell will ask questions about your problem, how it is affecting you, and questions about your past health history.  After getting a good picture of what is going on with your problem, Dr. Bell will go through a thorough assessment to determine the cause of your problem.  After your assessment, Dr. Bell will go over what he found and how he can help you.  If Dr. Bell thinks your problem needs further testing, he can send you for x-rays or other tests, or make a referral to another health care provider (like your medical doctor).  If your problem has a lot of muscle findings, Dr. Bell may suggest that you try therapeutic massage, along with chiropractic, to help improve the problem faster.  You can always book massage therapy right from the start.

Please feel free to ask any questions at any time during your visit.

How to Dress:

Dress comfortably.  Sometimes our practice members feel more comfortable wearing shorts and a T-shirt for the assessment.  You can bring these if you wish.

For your regular visits to the clinic, wearing your regular clothes is perfectly fine.

What to Bring:

On your first visit, please bring your Alberta Health Care card or number.  Although our care is not covered by Alberta Health Care, Dr. Bell will need your number if you need to go for x-rays, or be referred to your medical doctor.

If you have any recent x-rays or other tests, please bring the reports.  If you don't have the reports, let us know where you had the tests done and we can get them.

Visiting your Massage Therapist:

After you complete your paperwork, you will be taken to one of our massage therapy rooms, where your massage therapist will ask some more questions about your problem.

After the interview, your therapist will then leave the room to allow you to disrobe and get comfortable on the treatment table.  You only need to disrobe to your level of comfort.

A sheet will be draped over you at all times to make you as comfortable as possible.  Only the area your therapist is treating will be uncovered.

After Your Treatment:You may have questions for your therapist.  Please feel free to ask them.

Your therapist may give you some homework to do to help your condition.  Those who do their homework often feel better overall.  If you forget your homework, you can ask your therapist again at your next session.

After the treatment is also a good time to book your next appointment as it suites your schedule.

Things to Consider After Your Treatment:

Just like going back to the gym after a long time, you could be a little sore after your treament.  This soreness should only last for a day or so.  Your therapist may recommend heat or ice to help relieve any soreness after the treatmen

You could feel dehydrated after your treatment.  Massage therapy moves fluid around the body, enhancing normal processes.  Be sure to drink lots of water.
